Lavin (Other Desert Cities, Collected Stories, Broadway Bound) will reunite with her Off-Broadway co-star Tony Award winner Dick Latessa (Hairspray, Follies, Brighton Beach Memoirs) in the drama about a headstrong mother who gathers her children at the side of their ailing father.

Much of the original Off-Broadway cast, including Michael Esper, Kate Jennings Grant, Brenda Pressley and Gregory Wooddell, are expected to be part of the Broadway run of The Lyons. Complete casting will be announced shortly.

Mark Brokaw (Cry-Baby) staged the original Off-Broadway production, which premiered at the Vineyard Theatre last fall. He will repeat his work for the Broadway engagement. Critics praised Silver's play, which played an extended Off-Broadway run.

Kathleen K. Johnson (A Life in the Theatre, Race, Hair, Superior Donuts, Blithe Spirit) is producing the Broadway mounting of The Lyons, which will begin previews in early April. The Cort Theatre is currently the home of Stick Fly, which will end its run Feb. 26.

Here's how the play is billed: "The Lyons is an outrageously funny and stirring work about a family grappling with the impending death of its patriarch. When Ben Lyons’ wife, Rita, and their grown children gather to say goodbye, they learn that despite being a family, each of them is utterly isolated. Afraid of closeness and afraid of solitude, they are propelled into foreign territory - human connection."

An on-sale ticket date and additional creative duties for The Lyons will be announced shortly.
