More than a dozen female Broadway stars are planning an Election Day eve concert in New York City to commemorate the 100th anniversary of women winning the right to vote in New York State.
Designed to “honor and empower women through story and song” Women Rock (the Vote) will showcase performances by Lauren Molina of the Skivvies, Tony Award winner Cady Huffman (The Producers), Lesli Margherita (Matilda), Kate Reinders (Something Rotten!), Sarah E. Litzsinger (Amour), Kelli Barrett (Doctor Zhivago), and Allison Blackwell (The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess).
In addition, Lindsay Nicole Chambers (Lysistrata Jones), Lulu Fall (Hair), Lauren Pritchard (Spring Awakening), Jennifer Sanchez (Sunday in the Park With George), Margo Seibert (Rocky), Aneesh Sheth (Bombay Dreams), Taylor Iman Jones (Groundhog Day), Jessica Vosk (Finding Neverland), and Laura Dadap will all be participating, as well.
Presented by Broadway Celebrates Awareness of Women’s Suffrage (BCAWS), the event is scheduled for 9:30 PM November 6 at Feinstein’s/54 Below supper club. Polls open the following morning for New York state and local offices. Part of the proceeds for the evening will go to RACKET, an organization aiming to “take the shame out of [menstrual] periods.”
Organizers of the concert issued a statement, saying, “We will will celebrate the women’s suffrage centennial, while recognizing that the struggle for gender equality continues.”
Feinstein’s/54 Below is located at 254 West 54th Street, beneath Studio 54, in Manhattan. Tickets, which cost $35 to $75 (plus a $25 food/drink minimum), can be ordered here.
