The Broadway musical based on the popular 1997 animated film will arrive in the West End within the next two years.

Anastasia, the new Broadway musical based on the popular 1997 animated film, will make its West End debut within the next two years.

A representative for the Broadway production confirmed the news, stating, “The producers of Anastasia plan to stage the musical in London by 2019.” A U.S. national tour is expected to launch next year.

The expanded stage production has a score by Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (who scored the 1997 film), and a new book by Tony winner Terrence McNally.

The show has been a strong box-office draw on Broadway, with a healthy advance that will keep it running at the Broadhurst Theatre for quite some time.

Earlier this spring, Anastasia producers announced that plans were also underway to roll out productions in Germany, Holland, Spain, Russia, Korea, Japan, Mexico, and China.

Here’s how it’s billed: “This dazzling show transports us from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920’s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing con man and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love and family.”

Tony Award winner Darko Tresnjak (A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder) directs Anastasia, which features choreography by Peggy Hickey.

Anastasia is produced by Stage Entertainment, Bill Taylor, Tom Kirdahy, and Hunter Arnold.
