The benefit performance will be 7:30 PM in the newly refurbished auditorium of Passaic High School (170 Paulison Avenue, Passaic, NJ). As the pop-hit-filled musical story at the Broadhurst Theatre tells it, Greenberg's daughter, Mary Jane, first saw the four singers that her mother would mold into The Shirelles at a talent show in the auditorium of Passaic High School. In "honor of that historic event, the Baby It's You! cast will be performing numbers from the Broadway musical that chronicles the meteoric rise of the legendary girl group," the producers announced.
Meanwhile, tickets for Broadway's Baby It's You! are on sale through Sept. 4, when the show closes.
The Passaic concert show will also feature a performance by the Passaic High School Band and a special Q&A with the cast of Baby It's You! Tickets are $20 at the door, and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit a performing arts scholarship fund "for a deserving Passaic High School student."
Tony Award winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone) plays Greenberg, a rare female blossom in the male-dominated record industry of the 1950s and '60s, in the musical conceived by Floyd Mutrux, directed by Mutrux and Sheldon Epps, and written by Tony Award-nominated book writers Mutrux and Colin Escott (Million Dollar Quartet).
The score includes the pop and rock classics "Dedicated to the One I Love," "Duke of Earl," "Soldier Boy," "I Say a Little Prayer," "Shout" and more. The playing schedule for Broadway's Baby It's You! is Tuesdays at 7 PM, Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 PM, with matinees Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 2 PM and Sundays at 3 PM.
Tickets range from $48.50-$126.50, and available at the Broadhurst Theatre box office (235 W. 44th Street) or at Telecharge.com (212) 239-6200.
