When it closes, the production will have played 21 previews and 173 regular performances at Broadway’s St. James Theatre.

“We are extremely grateful for the enthusiastic audiences who have cheered on this extraordinary cast and that we’ve been afforded 12 additional performance weeks past our original end date of October 7. We’ve decided to forego the historically slow month of January and play our final performance on December 30, at the height of the holiday season, as we celebrate the remarkable achievement of our creative team and all of the talented people who made Bring It On a one-of-a-kind Broadway experience,” said Glenn Ross on behalf of Universal Pictures Stage Productions in a statement.

Bring It On: The Musical began preview performances on July 12, opened on Aug. 1 and was originally scheduled to play through Oct. 7. Producers had announced a 15-week extension through Jan. 20, 2013. Discussions for additional tour dates in the 2013-14 season are underway.

Inspired by the "Bring It On" film, the Broadway musical features an original story by Tony Award winner Jeff Whitty, music and lyrics by Tony Award-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, music by Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning composer Tom Kitt, lyrics by Broadway lyricist Amanda Green and music supervision by Tony and Grammy Award winner Alex Lacamoire. The production is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Andy Blankenbuehler.

Bring It On: The Musical, according to producers, tells the "story of the challenges and unexpected bonds formed through the thrill of extreme competition. With a colorful crew of characters, an exciting fresh sound and explosive dance with aerial stunts, this hilariously universal story is sure to be everything you hoped for and nothing like you expected." Following a digital release on Sept. 25, the original Broadway cast recording of Bring It On: The Musical, produced by Ghostlight Records and available on Back Lot Music, hit stores Oct. 16.
