Fisher-Wilson will succeed Carol Woods as Matron "Mama" Morton. The singing actress is scheduled to stay with the long-running production at the Ambassador Theatre through Jan. 1, 2009.
The musical revival will also celebrate its 12th anniversary and its 5,000th performance on Broadway Nov. 14.
LaVon Fisher-Wilson received the Suzi Award for her portrayal of Gran Mimi in Jelly's Last Jam at the Alliance and has also been seen in productions of Once on This Island; Crowns; Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope; Dreamgirls; Tommy; and Beehive.
Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. The original production was directed and choreographed by the late Bob Fosse.
Chicago plays the Ambassador Theatre, located at 215 West 49th Street.
