Andrews will be signing copies of her books — please, no Playbills or record jackets — at the Books of Wonder bookstore located at 16 West 18th Street (between Fifth and Sixth Ave.) from 5-7PM. The beloved Andrews made her Broadway debut in the original staging of the Sandy Wilson musical The Boy Friend — which she recently directed at Sag Harbor's Bay Street Theatre. Her other Broadway roles were in My Fair Lady, Camelot and Victor/Victoria. She is world-renowned for her performance as Maria in the film version of "The Sound of Music." Other films credits include "Mary Poppins" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie."
The actress will be celebrating the release of two new children's books — "Simeon's Gift" and "Dumpy and the Firefighters" — co-authored with her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton. "Dumpy and the Firefighters" is illustrated by Andrews' ex-husband, the Broadway designer Tony Walton. Other titles by Andrews available include "Mandy," "The Last of the Really Great Wangdoodles," "Little Bo" and "Dumpy the Dump Truck." The Broadway legend uses the name Julie Andrews Edwards for her writing work.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call (212) 989-3270.
