News Broadway's Korbich and Neville to Star in Top of the Heap for NYMF Eddie Korbich, currently flapping his wings as the seagull Scuttle in the world premiere of Disney's The Little Mermaid, will star in the New York Musical Theatre Festival presentation of Top of the Heap.

The musical, written by composer Jeffrey Lodin, with book and lyrics by William Squier, is set in 1950's New York and "tells the tale of Ronny Mauro and Gil Webster, a pair of nightclub comics who get a shot at the big time by landing an appearance on a popular television variety program," according to press notes. "Gil runs afoul of Edgar Callahan, the program's host, when he slips one of the team's edgier routines into the live broadcast after being told not to perform it. As a result, Ronny finds himself having to choose between remaining loyal to his friend and getting back into the good graces of the one man who can grant him showbiz success: the Machiavellian Mister Callahan." Joining Korbich for the NYMF production will be Jerold Goldstein, Carolee Goodgold, Susan Haefner and Marcus Neville.

Lodin and Squier's previous NYMF production, the award-winning 100 Years into the Heart, will be presented during the Village Theater's Seventh Annual Festival of New Musicals on Aug. 19.

Top of the Heap, which is presented as part of NYMF's Developmental Series, will play the Sage Theater for two performances on Sept. 19 at 4:30 and 8 PM. The Sage Theater is located at 711 Seventh Avenue, 2nd Floor, in Manhattan. Tickets are available by visiting www.nymf.org.
