The nonprofit American Theatre Wing, best known as founder and co presenter of the Tony Awards, turned 80 in 1998. In addition to bringing attention to Broadway and the industry in general, the Wing sponsors community and educational programs, including "Introduction to Broadway," which introduces schoolchildren to theatre, many for the first time; "Theatre In-Schools," which shuttles artists to schools for discussions about craft; and "The Hospital Program," presenting entertainers at senior homes, hospitals and AIDS centers.
