The storyline of the episode features the title character, bowling alley lawyer Ed, attempting to self-induced lucid dream in which he can control and is aware of his actions. In a bizarre turn of events, Ed in his subconscious state is encountered by Diggs, who plays himself as well as '80s rock group Hall & Oates. Diggs recently lent his dulcet tones to the smash moviemusical "Chicago." The actor of Carousel and the stageshow Chicago is perhaps best known for originating the role of Benjamin Coffin III in the musical Rent — where he met his newlywed wife Idina Menzel. Diggs has gone on to a career in film including stints in "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" and "The Best Man."

Last week, Take Me Out' s Daniel Sunjata guest starred on the Stuckeyville-set comedy filmed locally in northern New Jersey. Past guest stars have also included Amour's Melissa Errico, Seussical's Kevin Chamberlain, Into the Woods' Gregg Edelman, Noises Off's Richard Easton, Man of La Mancha's Ernie Sabella, Oklahoma!'s Shuler Hensley and Copenhagen's Philip Bosco.

“Ed” airs Wednesday night at 8PM (ET). The sitcom is produced by NBC Studios in association with Viacom Productions and Worldwide Pants, Inc — who also produce “Late Show with David Letterman” where the show's creators are Rob Burnett and Jon Beckerman are from. The executive producers are Burnett, Beckerman and David Letterman.
