News Broadway's Wizard to Autograph New Tome Sept. 12 in NYC Academy and Tony Award winner Joel Grey will autograph copies of his first book Friday, Sept. 12 in Manhattan.

Grey's monograph, "Pictures I Had to Take," is available from powerHouse Books. The actor-singer-photographer will sign copies of his tome at the Barnes & Noble located at 675 Sixth Avenue at 21st Street. The signing begins at 7 PM. Grey's book is a visual memoir of his experiences while traveling throughout the world during the past 25 years. Grey, who will return to Broadway this season as the Wizard in the eagerly awaited Stephen Schwartz musical Wicked, recently spoke about the photos that comprise his 160-page book: "I don't think of them as travel pictures," he said. "I went to most of these places to work: a film, a television show, a concert. During downtime, photography was my way of exploring and knowing where I was.

"Pictures I Had to Take" features nearly 100 four-color photographs. Some of the pictures include a sleeping golden Buddha, misty Incan ruins, a skeleton slowly revealing itself from its burial place in Rome and the interior of a break room in the Rikers Island prison. "Pictures I Had to Take" has a list price of $60.

Joel Grey won a Tony Award for his role as the Emcee in the original Broadway production of Cabaret. He later repeated the role on film to Oscar-winning effect. Grey's other theatrical credits include roles in George M!, Goodtime Charley and The Grand Tour, receiving Tony nominations for all three productions. A Kennedy Center honoree, Grey was last on Broadway in the Tony-winning revival of Chicago. Wicked begins performances Oct. 7 at the Gershwin Theatre.
