News Bronx Bombers Delays First Off-Broadway Preview; Richard Topol Replaces Joe Pantoliano Primary Stages has announced that Richard Topol (Broadway's The Normal Heart, The Merchant of Venice) has replaced Joe Pantoliano in the role of Yogi Berra in the world premiere of Eric Simonson's Bronx Bombers, which had been scheduled to begin previews Sept. 17.

Pantoliano departed the production "due to artistic differences."

Previews will now begin Sept. 20; opening night remains Oct. 8, and performances will continue through Oct. 19 at Primary Stages at The Duke on 42nd Street.

Topol joins the previously announced ensemble featuring Francois Battiste, Chris Henry Coffey, Bill Dawes, Christopher Jackson, Wendy Makkena, Keith Nobbs, John Wernke and C.J. Wilson.

"Ruth. Berra. DiMaggio. Jeter. The New York Yankees has never had a shortage of star players," press notes state. "In this world premiere from the creative team behind Broadway's Lombardi and the director of the Primary Stages hit String of Pearls, Bronx Bombers examines how baseball's most storied franchise has always remained focused on maintaining a great team, even when dealing with some of the game's most iconic and tempestuous personalities. How do they do it? Well, as Yogi always said, 'You can observe a lot by watching.'"

The production features scenic design by Beowulf Borritt, costume design by David. C. Woolard, lighting design by Jason Lyons and original music and sound by Lindsay Jones.
