The merger of the two Latino theatres will officially be announced Nov. 4 at the Time Warner Center.
"This merger is about our collective future, while preserving an important legacy," Rosalba Rolón, artistic director of Pregones, said in an interview with the Times. "We can both expand the reach of our work with that uptown-downtown flow and consolidate the administrative aspects. It’s very exciting."
Rolón will be the artistic director of the newly merged theatres, and Miriam Colón Valle, founder of the Traveling Theater, will become the founding artistic adviser of the joint endeavor. The theatres will legally become one institution but will retain their current names.
Valle told the Times that the two theatres have a history of collaborating.
The Times reports that the merger is not yet officially approved by the attorney general’s office in Albany. For more information, visit pregones.org and prtt.org.
