Brooklyn Philhamonic board chairman J. Barclay Collins II announced his gift on October 26 in support of music director Michael Christie's tenure.

The gift is a significant contribution to the Brooklyn Philharmonic's first-ever endowment effort. The Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust intends to make a gift of $300,000 to the orchestra in 2009, on condition that it be matched one-to-one by December 31, 2008. The Brooklyn Philharmonic aims to match the Trust's gift and create a $600,000 endowment by June 2009.
