News Brooklyn's Gallery Players Will Stage Reinvented Rent; Casting Announced The Gallery Players will conclude its 47th mainstage season with a reinvented production of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical Rent — about a group of bohemian artists struggling to pay their rent in the midst of the AIDS epidemic — beginning April 26 in Brooklyn.

"You won't see a striped winter scarf in this production (or a sexy Santa suit for that matter) but you will hear every note of Jonathan Larson's passionate score performed by one of the most dynamic and talented casts and orchestras Gallery has assembled," said Gallery Players president and director Mark Harborth in a statement.

The cast includes Dale Sampson as Mark, Isaac Matthews as Roger, Dwayne Washington as Collins, David Cronin as Angel, Tara Novie as Mimi, Kolton Bradley as Benny, Tunisia Renee as Joanne and Mara Jill Herman as Maureen.

Performances of the Equity Approved Showcase will continue through May 18.

Rounding out the ensemble are Tatiana Adams, Dana Baráthy, Danny Bristoll, Erin Edelle, Hubbard Farr, Nicholas Ferrara, Scott McLean Harrison, Westley T. Holiday, Katie Mack, Aashley Morgan, Sean O'Shea, Chrysten Peddie, Jackie Reynolds, Barry Sheppard, Hana Slevin and Marc Winski.

Other members of the creative team include music director Michael Hopewell, choreographer Elyse Daye Hart, associate choreographer Trey Mitchell (assisted by Lexi Mondot), set designer Jerry Mittelhauser, costume designer Joey Haws, lighting designer Scott Andrew Cally, sound designer Jacob Subotnick, properties designer Sara Slagle and production stage manager Kathleen Parker (assisted by Hilary Kolman and Elizabeth Ramsay). A GalleryTalks talkback event, "Giving Rent its Due: Historicizing a Fictional 'La Vie Boheme' and the Real AIDS Epidemic," featuring guest scholar Virginia Anderson, will follow the April 27 performance.
