Weiss is replacing Lauren Klein in the role of Luba Fogel; Klein had a prearranged departure after the July 24 opening to star as Linda Loman in the Denver Center Theatre Company production of Death of a Salesman, which is set to open next month.
Weiss' film and TV credits include "House," "Gilmore Girls," "Nip/Tuck," "Desperate Housewives," "Reno 911!," "Alibi," "Quality of Life" and "Slums of Beverly Hills," among others. She has been seen on stage in The Rose Tattoo; Love, Dreams and Lost Uncles; Master of the House; and Lily.
Directed by Allen Lewis Rickman, the production was originally scheduled to conclude Aug. 29. The cast also features Peter Van Wagner (Isaac Ginsburg on HBO's "Boardwalk Empire"), Lori Wilner, Michael Lewis and Jazmyn Richardson.
"He’s Jewish and she’s Black," press notes state. "He’s 50 and she’s 20. And it’s 1953. The new comedy Dancing On Nails explores the challenging relationship between a lonely middle-aged shopkeeper and his young African-American employee in 1950s Greenwich Village."
Playwright Paul Manuel Kane has authored the plays Florabel (Playbox Theatre), New York Stories (Roy Arias Theater) and Red Wing Cara Cara (Altered Stages). The production has scenic design by Vicki R. Davis, costume design by Gail Cooper-Hecht and lighting design by Michael Gottlieb.
Remaining performances are July 31 at 3 PM and 7 PM.
