Presented in association with Michael Jackowitz, the production, co-conceived and directed by Daisy Prince, will officially open June 21 and play a limited engagement through July 13.

Broadway favorite Billy Porter (Smokey Joe's Cafe, Miss Saigon, Five Guys Named Moe, Grease), who appeared in the revue at Lincoln Center, also heads the Rubicon Theatre Company cast. He is joined onstage by Jessica Phillips (The Scarlet Pimpernel, Jesus Christ Superstar), Lucas Steele (The Threepenny Opera), Jamison Stern (By Jeeves, Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and the Beast) and Joan Almedilla (Miss Saigon).

It's Only Life, according to press notes, is described as "a musical collage that carries the characters and audience on a progression of revelations. Through Bucchino's probing, personal songs, the piece moves from an urban, cold, sophisticated world to a world beyond the neuroses – a world in which light, hope and love have a place once more."

In a statement director Prince commented, "It is my belief that John's songs, whether in their sincerity and simplicity, or in their hyper-articulate complexity, express the commonality in our emotional life. Like some of our best novelists, the incredible specificity in John's writing is, perhaps ironically, the thing that makes it universal. I hope that, much like the stories told onstage, the audience sees our common struggle with doubt and fear as the precursor to insight."

The creative team also includes musical director Brent Crayon, scenic designer Beowulf Boritt, orchestrator Bruce Coughlin, sound designer Drew Dalzell, costume designer Elizabeth Cox and resident property designer T. Theresa Scarano. Linda M. Tross is stage manager. It's Only Life made its debut in 2006 as part of Lincoln Center's American Songbook series. A CD was subsequently released on the PS Classics label.

The Rubicon Theatre is located at 1006 E. Main Street in Ventura, CA. For tickets call (805) 667-2900 or visit www.rubicontheatre.org.
