Those taking part in “Martinis at the Martin” include Tony Award winners Betty Buckley and Barbara Cook, Golda's Balcony star Tovah Feldshuh, cabaret veteran Wesla Whitfield and singer Sylvia McNair. Whitfield will kick off the annual series, which plays the Ravinia's Martin Theatre, June 8 at 8 PM. Cook will offer performances June 19 (4:30 PM) and 20 (8 PM), and she will be followed by McNair, who will present a Harold Arlen tribute July 10 at 4:30 PM. Feldshuh will offer Tovah: Out of Her Mind! Aug. 14 (4:30 PM) and 15 (8 PM), and Tony winner Buckley will bring her acclaimed evening of Smoke to the Ravinia Aug. 28 (4:30 PM) and 29 (8 PM).
The Ravinia Festival will also present Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents' Anyone Can Whistle Aug. 26-27. The staged concerts will star the previously announced Patti LuPone as Cora Hoover, Audra McDonald as Fay Apple and Michael Cerveris as Dr. Detmold. Lonny Price will direct the Tony-winning trio with Paul Gemignani as conductor of the Ravinia Festival Orchestra. Anyone Can Whistle is the final offering in the Festival's Sondheim 75 series, a five-year salute to the works of the famed composer. The Ravinia previously offered concert stagings of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Passion and Sunday in the Park with George.
