The new national tour of Buddy...The Buddy Holly Story ends its kick-off stint at Boston's Shubert Theatre Dec.19 after beginning performances there Dec. 7.

Buddy, a retrospective on the 50s musician's life and work, opened for a brief run at Broadway's Shubert Theatre Nov. 4, 1990. Some of the original Holly numbers in the show include "Peggy Sue Got Married," "Maybe Baby," "That'll Be The Day," "Rave On," "Oh Boy" and "Words of Love," alongside "La Bamba" and "Chantilly Lace," performed in Holly's fateful last concert by Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper.

Val Zeiler stars as Buddy Holly. Zeiler was the alternate Holly in the still-running London company. Other credits include Lincoln Center Director's Lab pieces, Container and A Perfect Analysis Given by A Parrot and regional productions of The Illusion, Hamlet, Midsummer Night's Dream and Pump Boys and Dinettes.

Also in the cast are Christopher Bloch, Aaron Cromie, Steve Gibb, Sean Nugent, Vin Parker, Joanna Parson, Steve Friday, Fred Berman, Rob Langeder, Christa Justus (Titanic), Llana Reda, Chris Yohn, Victoria Stilwell, Travis Turpin, Edward Kemper, David Sinkus, Angela Howell, Jonathyn Rayfield, Dean Brewington, Gay Glenn, J. Cameron Barnett and Tamula Browning.

Boston theatregoers are able to sample the tunes of Holly and his Crickets for $20. These rush tickets, located in the first two rows of the orchestra, will be available the day of performance at the box office only.
