News   Burke, Chalfant, Gerroll Read Listening Heaven at Cherry Lane Sept. 23
Marylouise Burke, Kathleen Chalfant, Allan Corduner, Daniel Gerroll, Heather Goldenhersch, and Deborah Rush will participate in a Sept. 23-24 reading of Torben Betts' play A Listening Heaven. The event is part of a new cultural exchange program between London's Old Vic and several New York nonprofit theatres. The Vineyard Theater will co-produce the Betts reading.

The reading will take place at 3 PM Sept. 23 and 6 PM Sept. 24 at the Cherry Lane Studio (38 Commerce Street). The readings are private.

The play concerns a family incapacity to grieve the death of a son. It has been produced at Alan Ayckbourn's Stephen Joseph Theatre and the Edinburgh Royal Lyceum.

The other New York theatres taking part in the exchange program are the Atlantic Theatre Company, Primary Stages and the New Group.

According to a press release, "The Old Vic New Voices initiative is central to the famous London theatre's new prominence under its artistic director Kevin Spacey and chairman Sir Elton John, and affirms The Old Vic's commitment to the cultivation of exciting new work on both sides of the Atlantic, for the benefit of both theatrical communities."

Burke has starred in Into the Woods and several David Lindsay Abaire plays. Chalfant has made her mark in plays such as Angels in America, Wit and Talking Heads. Gerroll was last seen in Enchanted April.
