News Burnett, Cook, Peters, McDonald, Stritch and More Salute Sondheim July 8 at Hollywood Bowl An all-star cast of theatre favorites has been assembled to salute composer Stephen Sondheim July 8 at the Hollywood Bowl.

The 8 PM performance — entitled Stephen Sondheim's 75th: The Concert — will feature the talents of Jason Alexander, James Barbour, Carol Burnett, Len Cariou, Barbara Cook, Stephanie D'Abruzzo, Jason Danieley, Alexander Gemignani, Josh Groban, Anne Hathaway, Angela Lansbury, Marin Mazzie, Eric McCormack, Audra McDonald , Bernadette Peters, Elaine Stritch, Jubilant Sykes, Vanessa Williams and Adam Wylie. Featuring the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the direction of longtime Sondheim musical director Paul Gemignani, the concert will also include the presentation of a special award to Sondheim by Academy Award-winning lyricist and ASCAP President Marilyn Bergman. Paul Lazarus is the director and producer of the one-night-only event.

Composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim has written a plethora of critically acclaimed, award-winning musicals, including A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, A Little Night Music, Into the Woods, Merrily We Roll Along, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George and Passion. He also contributed lyrics to West Side Story and Gypsy, and his newest musical, Bounce, played Chicago and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. His revised productions of The Frogs and Pacific Overtures were on Broadway stages earlier this season, and the 2004 staging of Assassins won five Tonys, including one for Best Revival of a Musical. Sondheim was also celebrated at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in summer 2002 with all-star stagings of six of his musicals — Company, Sweeney, Merrily, Night Music, Sunday and Passion.
