A film and television actress in both New York and London, Cordell (according to the New York Post obituary) spent the World War II years working for the BBC and on the London stage in Design For Living and Arms And The Man. Her Broadway roles included Marion Linden in Priestley's The Linden Tree (1948), Romantic Mr. Dickens, Golden Wings, Yesterday's Magic, While The Sun Shines and Sheppy.

Cordell also appeared opposite Rex Harrison in the film version of George Bernard Shaw's Major Barbara.
