With Rent and Noise/Funk already changing the sound of music normally heard on Broadway, three soul queens will add their own belts and blues to the mix, when Donna Summer, Chaka Khan and Gloria Estefan take over the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre for one night only, Dec. 11.
Sponsored by New York dance-oriented radio station WKTU-FM (103.5), the event is being called "The Three Divas," a kidding reference to the famed "Three Tenors" concerts, recently sequelized with "Three Sopranos." Summer, a disco diva; Khan, a 70's funkmistress; and Estefan, an 80's/90's Miami sound machine, will offer old and new hits.
Also on-hand will be entertainer and 1990's funkmistress RuPaul, who, according to columnist Liz Smith, will offer his own tribute to the three ladies of soul.
For tickets and information regarding the "Three Divas" benefit (the charity hasn't yet been selected), call WKTU at (201) 420-3700.
