News Bway Chicago Welcomes Two New Stars April 15 Tracy Shayne and Angie Stone join the Broadway company of Chicago April 15 as, respectively, Roxie Hart and Matron "Mama" Morton.

Shayne, who has been a standby for the role of Roxie in the New York production of the Kander and Ebb musical, is scheduled to perform the part of the merry murderess through May 18. R&B singer Stone, a two-time Grammy Award nominee, is making her Broadway debut in the role of the jail warden.

Others in the current cast include Brenda Braxton as Velma Kelly, Clarke Peters as Billy Flynn, D. Sabella as Mary Sunshine and P. J. Benjamin as Amos Hart. (It was also recently announced that screen actress Melanie Griffith will play Roxie July 11-Sept. 28. This will mark Griffith's Broadway bow.)

Tracy Shayne made her Broadway debut in the Tony-winning musical A Chorus Line. She also played Christine in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, and she succeeded Judy Kuhn in the role of Cosette in the Broadway company of Les Misérables.

Best known for such recordings as “Black Diamond” (Arista) and “Mahogany Soul” (J Records), Angie Stone has also appeared in the Touchstone film “The Hot Chick” and will co-star in Paramount Pictures’ “Fighting Temptations” this summer.

Chicago won the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. The original production was directed and choreographed by the late Bob Fosse. Chicago now plays Tuesday through Saturdays at 8 PM, Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2 PM and Sundays at 6:30 PM.
