This week's presentation of the Children's Museum's "Broadway Theatre Thursday Matinee" series will be a dance performance and special lesson from the cast of the Tony-nominated Broadway musical, Swing! The Children Museum (212 W. 83 St.) will present two performance/lesson sets on July 6, one at 2 PM and another at 2:30 PM.
Dancers from Broadway's Swing! will be "teaching swing techniques for the children," on June 6 according to the museum's Constance Charity.
Charity said the Children Museum is open to kids of all ages and welcomes younger siblings who may just want to watch. "We also have our word play exhibit," Charity told Playbill On-Line, "which is the first of its kind in the city for kids, from infants to 4 years of age." Charity said the program employs "word language nourishment, word acquisition and baby babble" in an exploration of kids and their language techniques.
"These are activities you can do at home and embellish on," Charity said, "and we hope to show parents how it's okay to talk directly to kids, and to make eye contact with them."
As reported earlier, Broadway shows such as Chicago and Off Broadway attractions like Blue Man Group are expected to participate in the series, which is funded with support from Target Stores. Following each appearance, the shows' performers will take questions from the audience and participate in workshops for the children. Following is a current schedule of "Theatre Thursdays."
