London's Daily Mail first published an exclusive April 24 report that Hathaway would star as Sally Bowles in a Broadway revival of Cabaret opposite 1998 Broadway revival Tony Award winner Alan Cumming.

Her publicist, Stephen Huvane, has now confirmed to Playbill.com that Hathaway is not planning to make her Broadway debut in the production. 

Hathaway recently won an Oscar for portraying Fantine in the film adaptation of Les Misérables. Last fall the actress sang Sally Bowles' songs in Perfectly Marvelous: The Songs of Cabaret with Anne Hathaway and Friends as part of a starry, sold-out benefit for the Public Theater at Joe's Pub, which left many in the industry speculating if Hathaway was eyeing a Main Stem bow in the Kander and Ebb musical.

Reports that current Macbeth star Cumming will reprise his Tony-winning performance as the Master of Ceremonies have footing. Cabaret composer John Kander confirmed to the New York Times that Cumming was attached to star in a 2014 Broadway revival for the Roundabout Theatre Company.

Cumming alluded to a return to Cabaret in a recent interview with The Aesthete. In the interview he revealed that rehearsals would begin in early 2014. "I'm doing another show on Broadway after 'The Good Wife' season ends," he said. "It starts rehearsals the day after my 49th birthday, so I'll be entering my 50th year dancing my tits off and being a sexpot." He declined to name the production, but added, "It's something I did before and we’re doing it again."

Cabaret features a book by Joe Masteroff, based on the John Van Druten play "I Am a Camera" and the original stories by Christopher Isherwood. John Kander and Fred Ebb penned the Tony-Award winning score to the musical that features such hits as "Willkommen," "So What," "Don't Tell Mama" and the title song.

Cabaret premiered on Broadway in 1966 under the direction of Harold Prince. The original production starred Jill Haworth as Sally Bowles and Joel Grey as the Master of Ceremonies. Cumming starred opposite late actress Natasha Richardson in the acclaimed 1998 Sam Mendes-helmed revival of the production for the Roundabout Theatre, which ran for 2,414 performances. Liza Minnelli and Grey starred in Bob Fosse's Oscar-winning 1972 film adaptation.

The Roundabout Theatre Company, which produced the last revival (featuring Cumming) at Studio 54, has not announced its full 2013-14 season.
