News Cabaret Festival to Honor Baby's Maltby and Shire Writing team Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire — of Baby and Starting Here, Starting Now fame — will be honored with the Blue Angel Award for Outstanding Contributions to the World of Cabaret at the upcoming Hoboken Cabaret Festival.

The second annual Festival will be held Feb. 26 at The Center for the Performing Arts at DeBaun Auditorium in Hoboken, NJ. In addition to Maltby and Shire, composer John Bucchino will be presented with the Duplex Cabaret Theatre Award for Composers. Bucchino, whose songs have been performed by Patti LuPone, Barbara Cook, Audra McDonald and Art Garfunkel, is currently co-writing a new musical with Harvey Fierstein entitled A Catered Affair. The 8 PM Hoboken Cabaret Festival, co-produced and directed by Phil Geoffrey Bond, will feature performances by Tom Andersen, Lisa Asher, Anna Bergman, Klea Blackhurst, Barbara Brussell, Brandon Cutrell, Nick Cearley, Scott Coulter, John DeMarco, Baby Jane Dexter, Michael Holland, Karen Mack, Mary Liz MacNamara, Sally Mayes, Eric Pickering, Julie Reyburn, Jana Robbins, Jay Rogers, Steven Ray Watkins and Lennie Watts. Show time is 8 PM.

Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire have written the scores for Baby; Big; Starting Here, Starting Now and Closer Than Ever. Their latest collaboration is entitled Take Flight. Shire has scored motion pictures ("Norma Rae" and "Saturday Night Fever"), and Maltby conceived and staged Ain't Misbehavin' and contributed lyrics to Miss Saigon. Maltby also co-directed the Tony Award-winning Fosse. The duo will be on hand to perform at the Feb. 26 cabaret evening.
