News Cabaret's Emma Stone In Talks for Disney's Live-Action "Cruella" Emma Stone, who received an Academy Award nomination for her performance in "Birdman," is in negotiations to play Cruella de Vil in Disney's live-action film "Cruella," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Stone made her Broadway debut as Sally Bowles in the most recent Broadway revival of Cabaret.

The Disney villainess, first seen in the 1961 film "101 Dalmatians," was played by Tony winner Glenn Close in the 1996 live-action movie of that animated classic; Close was Golden Globe-nominated for her performance.

 

"Cruella," an origin story of the character, will be penned by Kelly Marcel; an earlier version of the screenplay was written by Aline Brosh McKenna.

No director has been named, although Disney plans to begin filming later this year. Andrew Gunn is producing.
