Cale has created and performed six solo pieces, including the award winning Lillian, Deep in a Dream of You, Smooch Music, The Nature of Things, Somebody Else's House and Redthroats. Two of those, Smooch Music and Nature of Things, were written in collaboration with composers Roy Nathanson, and Nathanson and Marc Ribot, respectively. Betwixt uses the song-writing services of guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg.

Cara Seymour co-stars. Seymour's name may sound vaguely familiar. As Caroline Seymour, she was Drama Desk nominated for her work on Goose Pimples and performed in Ecstasy, The Skryker and Present Laughter on Broadway. The name change from Caroline to Cara ("friend" in Irish) came with her entrance into the Screen Actor's Guild. The change paid off; recently she's appeared as Gillian in "You've Got Mail" and Josephine in "Good Baby," as well as in minor roles in "American Psycho" and "Dancer in the Dark."

Tickets are $35-$20 and are available by calling (212) 279-4200. The Theatre at St. Clement's is located at 423 West 26th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues. The New Group's 1999-2000 season has so far included Marc Wolf's one- man examination of gays in the military, Another American: Asking & Telling and the world premiere of Dmitry Lipkin's Cranes.
