Claffey will be honored by St. Malachy's, known as the Actors' Chapel, at the annual Father George Moore Benefit Dinner at Sardi's. Claffey has served as president of Local One, the Broadway stagehands union, since 2001.
"Each year, in honor of Father Moore's legacy, St. Malachy's hosts this dinner named for him to acknowledge leaders in our field who embody his commitment to community service, dedication to the arts, and love of people and community," said St. Malachy's pastor Rev. Richard Baker in a statement. "James J. Claffey, Jr., President of IATSE Local One, the stagehands union on Broadway and in television, is such a man."
The 6 PM evening will feature Tony nominee Liz Callaway (Baby, The Look of Love) as mistress of ceremonies, and a line-up of performers including Neuwirth (Addams Family, Chicago) and Hoty (Bye Bye Birdie, Mamma Mia!), as well as Jim Walton (Bye Bye Birdie, Guys and Dolls), Eric Jordan Young (Ragtime) and Kyle Brenn (West Side Story). Scott Cady serves as musical director.
Honorary gala chair of the evening is Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan, with Actors' Equity executive director John Connolly as gala chair. Coordinating the entertainment are Actors Fund executive director Joseph Benincasa, AEA president Mark Zimmerman and Local 802 president Mary Landolfi.
