The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts announced nominations for the 40th Anniversary Dora Mavor Moore Awards, recognizing excellence in professional theatre, dance, and opera in Toronto, May 28. The annual ceremony will be held June 25 at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts.

As TAPA announced in April 2018, all performance categories for the 2018–2019 season are gender neutral. All former binary male and female titles have been replaced with gender inclusive designations as applicable to Outstanding Performance categories.

In the General Theatre Division, Soulpepper Theatre Company heads the nominations list with 14 nods over five productions. Soulpepper also earned 11 nominations in the Musical Theatre Division for its production of Rose, bringing its total to 25.

Also in the Musical Theatre Division, The Musical Stage Company and Young People’s Theatre tied in leading the pack with 14 nods each, for two productions each. Producer David Mirvish tallied in at nine for the Canadian premiere of Dear Evan Hansen, including nods for title player Robert Markus and director Michael Greif.

The Musical Stage Company’s nods comprise 10 for Next to Normal (including for performers Ma-Anne Dionisio, Stephanie Sy, Brandon Antonio, and Louise Pitre) and four for Dr. Silver: A Celebration of Life, co-produced with Outside the March.
