News   Candy Buckley and Rebecca Henderson to Star in Bergman's Autumn Sonata at Yale Rep

Robert Woodruff (Notes from Underground) will stage the U.S. premiere of Ingmar Bergman's Autumn Sonata, about a mother and daughter attempting to reconnect, at the Yale Repertory Theatre in April.

Wendy Weckwerth has translated Bergman's 1978 film, which famously starred Ingrid Bergman, in their only screen collaboration. Autumn Sonata will run April 12-May 7. It will officially open April 21.

The cast will include Candy Buckley (Bernarda Alba, After the Fall) as Charlotte and Rebecca Henderson (The Retributionists, A Kind of Alaska) as her daughter, Eva. The cast will also include Merritt Janson, Olek Krupa and Paul Brantley as the cellist.

According to Yale Rep, "Charlotte a celebrated classical pianist who has forged a successful career at the expense of her family, attempts to reconcile with her daughter Eva whom she has not seen in seven years. Over the course of one evening, they confront their darkest feelings and resentments. A tightly-wound psychological study of the complicated relationship between mothers and daughters, Autumn Sonata reveals that living and loving—like mastering notes on a piano—are skills that must be practiced every day."

Autumn Sonata will have music direction by Michaël Attias, set design by Riccardo Hernandez, costume design by Candice Donnelly, lighting design by Jennifer Tipton, sound design by Chad Raines, projection design by Peter Nigrini, vocal coaching by Walton Wilson, and dramaturgy by Amy Boratko and Hannah Rae Montgomery.

Yale Rep tickets are available by visiting YaleRep, by calling (203) 432-1234 or by visiting the Yale Rep box office (1120 Chapel Street).
