News Carbonell Awards Honor South Florida Stagings of Frozen, Aida, Ice Glen Productions of Frozen, Aida and the new work, Ice Glen, received honors April 10 in the 30th Annual Carbonell Awards, celebrating excellence in South Florida resident professional theatre.

The ceremony was held at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale.

Among musicals, The Actors' Playhouse production of Aida took a number of categories, including Musical Direction, Choreography, Actress, Director and Production.

Joan Ackermann's Ice Glen at Florida Stage was named Best New Work.

For plays, GableStage's Frozen won in the categories of Production, Director, Actress, Actor and Lighting Design.

The Carbonell board of directors moved the awards ceremony from November to April to coincide with the region's cultural season, expanding eligibility for the 30th annual awards to 16 months spanning September 2004 through December 2005. To accommodate the extra-long period, categories have six nominations apiece instead of the usual five for this season only. For more information, visit www.carbonellawards.org.
