According to a release from the cable network, Gugino will appear as a defense attorney in a guest star role for 10 of the series' 12 episodes. Created by Tom Kapinos, "Californication" stars David Duchovny as "hedonistic novelist Hank Moody who struggles to raise his teenage daughter (August: Osage County's Madeleine Martin), while still carrying a torch for his ex-girlfriend Karen (Natascha McElhone - London's Honour)."
In the new season, according to Showtime, "Hank will have to deal with the fall-out from his one-night-stand with then-underage pseudo step-daughter Mia (Madeline Zima) going public. His epic legal troubles force him to enlist the aid of hot, high-powered lawyer Abby (Gugino) to keep him out of the big house but can he keep his hands off her?"
Gugino last appeared on Broadway in the 2009 revival of Desire Under the Elms. Other stage credits include After the Fall and Suddenly Last Summer. The actress is known for her work in the films "Watchmen," "Sin City," the "Spy Kids" trilogy, "Righteous Kill," "Judas Kiss," "Night at the Museum" and television turns in "Karen Sisco," "Chicago Hope," "Spin City" and "Entourage."
Guest stars on the series have included stage performers Peter Gallagher, Kathleen Turner, Judy Greer, Damian Young and series regular Evan Handler.
