Tony nominee Carmen Cusack will headline Encores!’ upcoming production of Call Me Madam, continuing New York City Center’s 75th anniversary season. Performances will run February 6–10 at the midtown venue.
Cusack (Bright Star, Lempicka) will take on the role of Ambassador Sally Adams, originated on Broadway in the Irving Berlin musical by Ethel Merman. The cast will also include Ben Davis (Violet) as Cosmo Constantine, Adam Heller (It Shoulda Been You) as Congressman Wilkins, Emmy winner Carol Kane (Harvey, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) as Grand Dutchess Sophie, Stanley Wayne Mathis (Nice Work If You Can Get It) as Senator Borckbank, Tony nominee Brad Oscar (Something Rotten!) as Senator Gallagher, Michael Benjamin Washington (The Boys in the Band) as Pemberton Maxwell, and Tony nominee Lauren Worsham (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder) as Princess Maria.
The ensemble includes Florrie Bagel, Daniel Berryman, Taeler Elyse Cyrus, Leslie Flesner, Ta’Nika Gibson, Christopher Gurr, Leah Horowitz, Javier Ignacio, Max Kumangai, Matt Loehr, Brandt Martinez, Skye Mattox, Timothy McDevitt, Harris Milgrim, Bethany Moore, Mary Page Nance, Robert Roby, Kathy Voytko, Sumi Yu, and Ricardo Zayas. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Casey Hushion will direct the presentation of the musical, which was originally seen at Encores! in its second season in 1995. Denis Jones will choreograph, with Encores! Music Director Rob Berman at the podium.
The show, featuring a score by Berlin and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, sends up political discourse as a socialite is named U.S. ambassador to the (fictional) country of Lichtenburg.
