News Carnelia, Lippa and Blumenkrantz to Offer Their Trunk Songs Sept. 24 Composers Craig Carnelia, Andrew Lippa and Jeff Blumenkrantz will take part in a special evening to benefit The Songbook Project, Inc. on Sept. 24.

Entitled Trunk Songs, the 8 PM concert will be held at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre and is part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival. The evening will feature Carnelia, Lippa and Blumenkrantz, who will present their lesser-known works as well as their best-loved compositions.

Andrew Lippa has written the scores for the Off-Broadway productions of The Wild Party and john & jen. He also contributed songs to the Broadway revival of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Lippa's more recent works include A Little Princess and Jerry Christmas.

Craig Carnelia wrote the score for the Broadway musical Is There Life After High School and contributed songs to Working. He also penned the lyrics to Marvin Hamlisch's music for Sweet Smell of Success, and the duo also wrote songs for Imaginary Friends. Carnelia also supplied tunes to the Off-Broadway play Three Postcards.

Jeff Blumenkrantz contributed songs to the Broadway musical Urban Cowboy as well as to Off-Broadway's The Audience. His one-act pieces, Woman with Pocketbook and Precious Little Jewel, have been performed regionally, and his songs have been performed by Audra McDonald and Judy Kuhn. As an actor, he appeared in the Broadway companies of Into the Woods, The Threepenny Opera, Damn Yankees, How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying and A Class Act.

The Songbook Project, Inc. is dedicated "to the promotion of the art of live performance with a special focus on new and classic popular songs. Further, the organization strives to preserve this heritage of song and to foster its artists, and present these songs in schools, community centers and other venues with the goal of educating and developing new audiences." The Duplex Cabaret Theatre is located at 61 Christopher Street.
