News Carner & Gregor's Barely Legal Showtune Extravaganza Will Return to NYC; Andrew Kober Will Host Andrew Kober, who appeared on Broadway in Hair, will host Carner & Gregor's Barely Legal Showtune Extravaganza, which will return to NYC Aug. 5 at (le) Poisson Rouge.

Directed by Marlo Hunter — who was the associate choreographer on Roundabout Theatre Company's Picnic and will also direct Carner and Gregor's Unlock'd at Prospect Theater Company — the concert will begin at 8 PM.

After four sold-out editions, Carner & Gregor's Barely Legal Showtune Extravaganza "is back for its biggest concert event yet," according to press notes. "Join Sam Carner and Derek Gregor, two of New York's hottest up-and-coming musical theatre writing teams…as they take you on a tour of their diverse work sung by the most promising young musical theatre performers in the country. Submissions will be accepted for the chance for eight lucky college students to make their New York concert debut in Barely Legal."

To enter the Barely Legal casting contest, interested performers should videotape a performance of any Carner & Gregor song — including one of four free Carner & Gregor songs with sheet music and piano tracks available at candgbarelylegal.com/contest — and send the video file to [email protected]. All videos will be posted on Barely Legal's YouTube page. A panel of Broadway professionals will score the videos, and the top eight performers will be invited to join Carner & Gregor in concert. All videos must be emailed by noon on June 11 and must include singer's name, college/high school and age. Winners will be chosen by June 25. Full details are available at CAndGBarelyLegal.com/Contest.

"We have seen so many fantastic young singers perform our songs across the country that we wanted to give them the opportunity to show what they can do here in New York," said Carner in a statement.

Gregor added, "We are so excited to give these college students a springboard like this to dive head first into New York's musical theatre scene. We are proud of what our alumni have done and can't wait to expand the Barely Legal family." Danielle Wade, who performed in last year's Barely Legal, won the Canadian reality TV show "Over the Rainbow" and is now playing Dorothy in the Toronto Wizard of Oz production. Other concert alums have performed on Broadway in Follies, Off-Broadway in Carrie and Myths & Hymns, and at major regional theatres and national tours.
