Playwrights ages 19 and younger have a chance to see their plays brought to the stage by the Blank Theatre Company and The Falcon Theatre in the seventh annual Blank Theatre Company's Young Playwrights Festival. Submissions for the Hollywood, CA-based contest are due by Apr. 5, 1999 and will be performed in June.
Plays can be any length, provided they are legible and postmarked by Apr. 5. All plays must have a cover sheet with the play's title, playwright's name, date of birth, school (if applicable), home address and home phone number.
Each winning play receives a mentor who helps the playwright prepare his or her script for performance. Past mentors have included Jack Heifner (Vanities), Constance M. Burge (creator of "Savannah"), Nora Dunn ("Saturday Night Live") and Garry Marshall ("Pretty Woman"). Past winners have featured performances by Noah Wyle ("ER"), Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), Debra Messing ("Will and Grace"), Jeremy Sisto ("Clueless") and Edward Asner.
