When Off-Broadway's Mint Theater Company treats New York to a production of Susan Glaspell's Alison's House, the 1931 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, it will mark the drama's first New York revival since its original run. The production, directed by Linda Ames Key, will open Sept. 24 for a run through Oct. 17.

The play caused a sensation when first produced by Eva La Gallienne's Civic Repertory Theatre. Alison's House concerns a family's attempts to prevent the publication of a stash of letters written by a recently deceased relation, a poetess named Alison Stanhope. The story is widely thought to be drawn from the life of Emily Dickinson.

The cast features Sharron Bower, Sarah Brockus, David Fitzgerald, Ann Hillary, Ruth Kulerman, Karla Mason, Lee Moore, Gerard O'Brien and Matt Opatrny. Glaspell (1882-1948) was one of the founders of the famed Provincetown Playhouse. Though she wrote several other plays, she never equaled the success she achieved with Alison's House.

The Mint Theater Company is dedicated to reviving forgotten works. It is located at 311 W. 43rd St. For information, call (212) 315-0231.
