News Cast Announced for World Premiere of The Innocents, a Darkly Comic Mystery Asolo Repertory Theatre announced casting for its spring 2011 world premiere of The Innocents, Steven Drukman's play about a gay man's familial relationship with a woman — and the forces that threaten it.

Anders Cato will direct guest artists Jason Bradley as Sutter, Jud Williford as Daniel, Kate Hampton as Edie and Scott Kerns as Liron at Asolo's Cook Theatre in Sarasota, FL. The staging of the "darkly comic mystery" will play April 15–May 14, 2011.

According to Asolo, "The family unit of Daniel, a middle-aged gay man, and his closest female friend, Edie, is threatened when two compelling young men enter the picture. A fascinating new play that touches on what it means to be an American in the 21st century."

The Innocents was first heard at Asolo's Unplugged New Play Festival.

Producing artistic director Michael Donald Edwards said in a statement, "One of the great joys of working in the theatre is the opportunity to develop new work, to be part of giving expression to what is happening in our contemporary world. We rely on our writers to observe, ask questions and help us grasp our moment. Steven Drukman's The Innocents is a smart, sexy and fresh romance with a political charge that is utterly timely in its depiction of behavior, ideas and language."

The designers are Lee Savage (set design), Amy Cianci (costume design), Tyler Micoleau (lighting design) and resident sound designer Matthew Parker (sound design). The stage manager is resident production stage manager Kelly Borgia. *

Asolo Rep is run by producing artistic director Michael Donald Edwards (who will direct David Hirson's La Bête and Lynn Nottage's Las Meninas in 2011) and managing director Linda DiGabriele.

Also in 2011, Peter Amster will direct Ira Levin's Deathtrap, Greg Leaming will direct Marc Camoletti's Boeing-Boeing and Tony Award winner Frank Galati will direct Reginald Rose's Twelve Angry Men.
