The Directors Company and RK Greene/The StoryLine Project LLC will present an industry reading of Beau, a new "play inside a concert," August 9 in Manhattan at the Directors Company.
Directed by Adam Quinn (Dear Evan Hansen), the cast will feature Jeb Brown (Beautiful) as Beau and Matt Rodin as Ace, with Lulu Picart, Max Sangerman (Smokey Joe’s Cafe), Ashley Perez Flanagan (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812), Ari Axelrod, Jeremy Sevelovitz (Chasing The Song), and Andrea Goss (Indecent).
Beau is conceptualized by and features a book and lyrics by Douglas Lyons (Beautiful), as well as a pop-country score by Ethan D. Pakchar (Five Points) and Lyons. Cynthia Meng serves as musical director.
In Beau, eight actor-musicians tell the story of Ace Baker, who spends the first decade of his life fatherless. At 12 years old, a phone call reveals that his grandfather Beau has been alive all his life, and his mother knew. Family secrets unravel as Ace rushes to make up for lost time with a man who changes his life and puts a guitar in his hand.
Beau was written in residence at The Directors Company.
