Casting has been announced for the U.K. tour of Gore Vidal's political drama, The Best Man, which will kick off September 12 at the Theatre Royal Windsor. Leading the company will be Jeff Fahey as Joseph Cantwell and Martin Shaw as William Russell.
The tour will continue through September 23 at the Theatre Royal Windsor and then play Theatre Royal Brighton (September 25–30), Richmond Theatre (October 2–7), Theatre Royal Bath (October 9–14), Cambridge Arts Theatre (October 16–21), and Sheffield Lyceum Theatre (October 23–28) before heading to the West End.
The company will also include Jack Shepherd (Ex-President Hockstader), Glynis Barber (Alice Russell), Honeysuckle Weeks (Mabel Cantwell), Anthony Howell (Dick Jenson), and Gemma Jones (Mrs. Gamadge), with Emma Campbell-Jones, Jim Creighton, Simon Hepworth, Ian Houghton, Craig Pinder, David Tarkenter, Alice Offley, and Samuel Donnelly.
Simon Evans will direct the production, which will feature set and costume design by Michael Taylor, lighting design by Chris Davey, and composition and sound design by Ed Lewis.
The Best Man is set at the national convention, where two candidates are vying for their party's nomination during the primary season. Bill Kenwright produces.
