News Casting Announced for Free York Theatre Company Reading of New Musical Carmilla The York Theatre Company will continue its Developmental Reading Series with a staged, one-night-only reading of the new musical Carmilla March 3.

Carmilla features a book and lyrics by Joel Gross and music and lyrics by Paul Aleman. The story is inpsired by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's acclaimed 19th century novel about sweet, young English peasant Vanessa, whose pending marriage to a handsome doctor is upended when she is visited by a supernatural, irresistible presence, Carmilla.

The reading will be directed by Gabriel Barre, a Tony nominee for his performance in Starmites, along with musical direction by Nathan Patten and music supervision and arrangements by James Abbott.

The cast will feature Leenya Rideout (War Horse) in the title role, Julia Burrows, Michael Minarik (Les Misèrables), Kaye Tuckerman and Nick Wyman (Catch Me If You Can). The ensemble will feature Liz Kimball, Darren Matthias, Michael Padgett, Kristin Parker, Clifton Samuels, Eveline Suter and Erica Sweany. The creative team also includes Drew Feldman as assistant director and Marci Skolnick as stage manager. 

The York Theatre Company's Developmental Reading Series presents some 40 readings and workshops of new musicals by emerging and established authors throughout the year.

The performance, scheduled for 3 PM, is open to the public and will take place at the York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's, located at 619 Lexington Ave., New York. Reservations are encouraged by visiting yorktheatre.org.
