News Casting Announced for Limited Off-Broadway Run of Falsettos Off Sides Entertainment, Inc. will join forces with Long Island Crisis Center — Long Island's oldest suicide prevention and crisis intervention agency — and its LGBT youth initiative, Pride for Youth, for a limited Equity Showcase run of William Finn and James Lapine’s award-winning musical Falsettos, which will play Manhattan’s The Theaters at 45 Bleecker Street May 30-June 15.

The cast will feature Ezra Hernandez as Marvin, Tanya Wills as Trina, Chris Leidenfrost as Whizzer, Dan Pivovar as Mendel, Matthew Leigh as Jason, Lisa Berman as Charlotte and Mary Palermo as Cordelia. Rick Leidenfrost-Wilson directs.

Off Sides hopes to raise over $5,000 for The Long Island Crisis Center, and will host a pre-show benefit dinner June 2 at Le Pain Quotidien that will feature special guest appearances by Michael Rupert, Stephen Bogardus and Alison Fraser, original cast members of the 1979 and 1981 productions of In Trousers and March of the Falsettos.

March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland were originally presented Off-Broadway. In 1992 Falsettos — featuring March as the first act and Falsettoland as the second — debuted on Broadway at the John Golden Theatre with a cast led by Michael Rupert, Chip Zien, Stephen Bogardus and Barbara Walsh. The musical won Tony Awards for Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.

Falsettos, according to press notes, is the "heartwarming and heartbreaking story of a non-traditional family striving to survive against all odds. Set during the post-sexual revolution of 1979 and the horror of the emerging AIDS epidemic in 1981, [the musical] tells the story of a suburban Jewish family comprised of one man, his lover, his ex-wife, their son, their therapist, and also a couple of lesbians who live next door. As the characters cope with their dysfunction and personal flaws, as well as the tragedy of an international health crisis, they somehow find that they can hold themselves to the ground as long as they can hold on to each other."

Performances are scheduled for May 30 at 8 PM, June 2 at 8:30 PM, June 3 at 2:30 PM, June 6 at 6 PM, June 11 at 8:30 PM and June 15 at 5 PM. General tickets are $18, and the June 2 benefit includes dinner and show for $100. Tickets can be purchased at planetconnections.org/falsettos, and more information can be found at www.offsides.org.
