Produced by David Hutchinson and Phillip Rowntree for Sell a Door Theatre Company Ltd. and Richard Darbourne, the production will be directed and choreographed by Cressida Carré, with sets by Richard Evans, lighting by Charlie Morgan Jones and sound by Chris Bogg and DBS Solutions. Puppets are designed by Paul Jomain, and orchestrations and arrangements are by Stephen Oremus.
According to press materials, a host of young talent will be supporting the puppet stars of the show. Reprising her role from the South Korean tour, Ellena Vincent will be playing Gary Coleman, a female role on Broadway but a male role in the West End. Richard Morse, previously seen in Sell a Door's production of The Man Who Had All The Luck, will be playing Brian, and Jessica Parker will be returning after her recent role in Sell a Door's production of Seussical as Mrs. T/Bad Idea Bear.
The roles of the hopeful young graduate Princeton and closeted gay Republican Rod will be taken by Tom Steedon, and Kate Monster/Lucy the Slut will be played by Lucie-Mae Sumner (seen in the U.K. tour of Sister Act).
The London run will be followed by a U.K. national tour that will commence May 13 at Torquay's Princess Theatre, and continue to Crewe, Londonderry, Manchester, Bracknell, Edinburgh, Inverness, Buxton, High Wycombe, Crawley, Blackpool, Poole, Lincoln, Sunderland, Winchester, St. Helens, Lichfield and Croydon, before concluding at Guildford's G Live!, ending its run there Aug. 2.
Avenue Q, which has music and lyric by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and book by Jeff Whitty, based on an original concept by Lopez and Marx, won 2004 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. It premiered in the West End in 2006, running for five years. In a press statement, Sell a Door's artistic director David Hutchinson commented, "This is our third major musical production following Spring Awakening in 2011 and Seussical in 2012 and 2013. I have every faith that this parable, which so cleverly pokes fun at the issues young people face going into adulthood, will strike a chord with audiences up and down the country."
