Theodore Bikel

As previously announced, Theodore Bikel will head the Aaron Posner and Chaim Potok play — based on Potok's novel — as Reb Saunders. Joining him onstage at the New Jersey theatre will be Mitchell Greenberg (David Malter), Paul Kropfl (Young Reuven Malter), Richard Topol (Reuven Malter) and John Lloyd Young (Danny Saunders). The Chosen's run concludes March 21. The Chosen is set in Brooklyn in the forties and, according to production notes, "tells the story of two boys, two fathers and two very different worlds existing only blocks apart. Reuven Malter (Richard Topol) is studious and gentle, the son of an Orthodox scholar and teacher (Mitchell Greenberg). Danny Saunders (John Lloyd Young) is restless and searching for a new way to look at the world apart from the strict teachings of his father, a Hassidic rabbi (Theodore Bikel). After the boys' fateful first meeting on a neighborhood baseball diamond, their contentious relationship soon turns into a meaningful friendship based on faith, understanding and family."

Directed by David Ellenstein, the creative team for the Paper Mill production comprises Michael Anania (sets), Ellis Tillman (costumes), Michael J. Eddy (lights) and David R. Paterson and Steve Shapiro (sound).

Paper Mill: The State Theatre of New Jersey is located on Brookside Drive in Millburn, NJ. Tickets, priced $30-$67, are available by calling (973) 376 4343. For more information visit www.papermill.org.
