Casting Announced for San Francisco Premiere of The Bunner Sisters | Playbill

News Casting Announced for San Francisco Premiere of The Bunner Sisters Richard Alleman's The Bunner Sisters — inspired by a little-known Edith Wharton novella — will play A.C.T. Costume Shop in San Francisco Feb. 11-21.

Produced by RE:ACT, a new company made up of American Conservatory Theatre (A.C.T.) alumni, The Bunner Sisters, press notes state, "follows the lives of two spinster sisters running a modest sewing business in 1880s New York City. When an unattached man enters the picture, their complacent existence is turned upside down." Directed by Anthony Newfield, the cast features Bay Area actors Tara Blau, Anne Buelteman, Heather Kellogg, Josiah Polhemus and Amy Prosser.

"We were looking for pieces that celebrated and honored women’s stories," said RE:ACT founding artistic director Polhemus in a statement. "Edith Wharton is a remarkable writer, and this little-known novella has been beautifully adapted by Richard Alleman. We tried out a staged reading of The Bunner Sisters last summer and found a wildly enthusiastic audience response. The opportunity to bring A.C.T. alums Anthony Newfield, Amy Prosser, and me together on this project has been a great joy."

San Francisco’s A.C.T. Costume Shop is located at 1117 Market Street. Show times are Thursday-Saturday at 7 PM and Sunday at 2 PM. For tickets, priced $25, click here.
