News   Casting Announced for U.K. Premiere of Simon Stephens' Carmen Disruption
Casting has been announced for the U.K. premiere of Simon Stephens' Carmen Disruption that begins performances at London's Almeida Theatre April 10 prior to an official opening April 17, for a run through May 23.

Michael Longhurst directs this dramatic reimagining of Bizet’s Carmen. The cast will comprise Noma Dumezweni, John Light, Jack Farthing, Sharon Small, Viktoria Vizin, Katie West and Harry Napier. According to press materials, the play explores the possibility of love in a fractured urban world. In the opulent grandeur of a European city, a renowned singer abandons the opera house for the truth of the streets. A gorgeous prostitute. A tough-talking taxi driver. A global trader. A teenage dreamer. Everyone’s looking for something.

The production is designed by Lizzie Clachan, with lighting by Jack Knowles, sound by Carolyn Downing, movement by Imogen Knight and new music composed by Simon Slater. Casting is by Anne McNulty and Sarah Playfair, dramaturgy by Pia Furtado, costume supervision by Jemima Penny, and the assistant director is Jude Christian.
