Lisa Capps, Gay Marshall, Jay Montgomery and Don Brewer will star in the Brel revue, which plays the New York theatre, Jan. 9-Feb. 8. Gordon Greenberg directs with scenic design by Rob Bissinger, lighting by Tracey Klainer and musical direction by Eric Svejcar. Director Greenberg told Playbill On-Line, "We have reordered the songs and played with some of the arrangements to create what will hopefully be an emotionally satisfying through-line and a genuinely European aesthetic that matches the soulfulness of Brel's music. At a time when the country is feeling as vulnerable as we did in the early seventies, this music is especially resonant."
Jacques Brel Is Alive & Well & Living in Paris features music and lyrics by the late Jacques Brel; conception, English lyrics and additional material by Eric Blau and Mort Shuman. The original staging of the revue opened in 1968 at The Village Gate in New York City and ran for 1,847 performances. Song titles include "Old Folks," "Carousel" and "If We Only Have Love."
