Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre has announced complete casting for its return engagement of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, which begins performances August 11 for an extended run through September 23.

As previously announced, Declan Bennett, Tyrone Huntley (who won the Evening Standard Emerging Talent Award for his performance in 2016), David Thaxton, and Peter Caulfield, will reprise their roles as Jesus, Judas, Pilate, and Herod, respectively, in the production, which won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and Evening Standard Award for Best Musical.

Newly announced for the rock musical are Maimuna Memon as Mary, Phillip Browne as Caiaphas, Sean Kingsley as Annas, Tim Newman as Simon Zealotes, and Phil King as Peter.

Previous cast members returning include Josh Dever, Rhys Whitfield, Charlotte Riby and Sinead Long, who will be joined by Mark Dugdale, Ivan De Freitas, Stevie Hutchinson, Javar Parker, Nuno Queimado, Cleve September, Tinovimbanashe Sibanda, Kirstie Skivington, Christopher Tendai, Tara Young, and Dale White. The Soul Girls will be played by Kayleigh McKnight, Lauran Rae, and Nicholle Cherrie.

With direction by Timothy Sheader, the limited run has design by Tom Scutt, choreography by Drew McOnie, musical supervision by Tom Deering, lighting design by Lee Curran, and sound design by Nick Lidster for Autograph.

The production opens at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in April 2018.

The 2017 Open Air Theatre season commenced May 19 with the classic American musical On The Town, directed and choreographed by McOnie. The cast includes Danny Mac, Fred Haig, Samuel Edwards (replacing Jeremy Taylor, who has withdrawn due to injury), Siena Kelly, Lizzy Connolly, Miriam-Teak Lee, Naoko Mori, Mark Heenehan, Rodney Earl Clarke, and Maggie Steed. Performances continue through July 1.
